Dear members,

The Interstate challenge 2008 is over and once again it was a great tournament with a very close finish as per the results published previously.

At our last AGM in Beresfield a motion was voted on Time game allowing tournaments organisers to apply the system. PFA choose to play its tournament on a 1hr time game + 2 ends system if teams were on an equal score. The time system allowed the tournament to run smoothly with a finishing time of 5.40 pm on the Saturday and 4.30 pm on the Sunday.

It was I believe well received by a majority of participants letting them the opportunity of socialising after the games instead of rushing to the airport as per the past.

PFA Board has requested a report form the National Director of umpiring Ray Beaumont and the umpire commission and also from our National Director of Coaching jean Francois Veyssiere and the coaching commission.

PFA board will review the format guided by the Umpiring and Coaching commission recommendations.

I like on behalf of Pétanque Federation Australia thanks our sponsor Jet Sports Clubs for its continuous generosity without their financial assistance the tournament would not be held. I must add that PFA contributes financially by providing the extra funds towards players/delegates accommodation and food. PFA also cover our umpires cost (travelling & accommodation).

Robert Boudan France Pétanque President and all his committee members thank you once again for being such a great host.
The interstate challenge remains in my opinion the most interesting of our 3 tournaments bringing players/delegates from around the country together in a great competition.

Our national Coaches will announce the Seniors and over 60 teams selected to represent Australia against New Zealand in the Trans Tasman series on 2nd and 3rd of may 2009 at Tempe (France Pétanque).

I look forward to see you all again next year for the 2009 Interstate challenge PFA board is open to bid from other States to host the event in 2009, while France Pétanque is still happy to host it again next year.

Our next meeting is in Perth for our PFA National Triple championships on the 21-22 February 2009.

Good luck with your selection and hope to see you there.

Yours in pétanque,

Andre Deramond
